KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City family is asking for the community's help to get their daughter the medical care she needs.
Alonna Ersery was recently diagnosed with mitochondrial myopathy, a disease affecting her lungs, bladder and all of her muscles.
Alonna uses a wheelchair to get around, and can only sit up for a minute or two without falling over.
Her parents are trying to raise money so they can send her to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota by the end of November.
"It was very unexpected to get a diagnosis and someone tell you there is nothing that can be done to help to make the situation better or to help her live a close to normal life," said Alonna's mom, Janala Ersery.
A pancake fundraiser has been set for 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church at 4444 Woodland Avenue, Kansas City, Mo. A $5 donation is requested made out in Alonna's name.
