A new study shows eating berries may help ward off heart attacks in women.
Harvard researchers followed 93,000 women for almost two decades. They were interested in how often the women ate blueberries or strawberries.
Research showed those who ate at least three servings a week reduced their risk of a heart attack by 33 percent.
"This is a pretty remarkable study because it tells us that there are proactive prevention things that women can do – that are not painful and that taste good and are heart healthy," said Dr. Elizabeth Dang, of Midwest Heart and Vascular. "(These are things) that they can do at an early age as potential long-term prevention to reduce risk of heart disease down the road."
Dang says 80 percent of heart diseases are preventable.
