Healthy eating habits help the learning process

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Studies show children who eat a healthy breakfast perform better in the classroom. Not only does it give kids energy to start their day, but a healthy breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control.

Weight gain and childhood obesity are growing health concerns in the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 17 percent of youth ages 12 to 19 are overweight.

Studies indicate a healthy breakfast can do the following:

- Give children a more nutritionally complete diet
- Improve concentration and performance in the classroom
- Provide strength and endurance to engage in physical activity
