KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The weather is finally turning toward spring, and the mayor of the metro's largest city is hoping people get outside and start exercising.
Exercising in his suit and bow tie, Kansas City Mayor Sly James kicked off a city-wide fitness challenge Tuesday night called "One City, One Challenge."
The goal is to encourage Kansas Citians, especially African Americans, to develop and maintain healthier lifestyles.
"Because of all the people in this city, we are the ones most likely to die young of things that we could be trying to prevent if we were more active and eating healthier foods," James said.
At the end of the challenge the city will host a community-wide 5K walk and run and fitness fair on May 18 at Swope Park.
