Around 8:30 p.m. on April 3, an off-duty officer heard gunshots outside. When he walked out, he saw a male victim, later identified as Brantner, in the parking lot. Kansas City Fire Department personnel responded and declared Brantner deceased at the scene.
According to court records, Brantner had met Swinton to sell him a handgun. They were discussing the sale when Swinton attempted to take the gun without paying. Court records read the two struggled over the gun and Swinton grabbed it and ran. Both Brantner and Swinton shot at each other.
Court records say Brantner was killed by a gunshot from the suspect.
