The coming new year is always a time for people to reflect on the past and set goals for the future. A newly released book, Dear Fear: 20 Powerful lessons to live your best life on the other side of Fear, focuses on overcoming one of the biggest obstacles to achieving success.

Several prominent, successful businesswomen from across the country shared their stories of overcoming fear for the new book. Ethel Davis, Founder and CEO of VZD Capital Management, which is based in Kansas City, was one of the authors who contributed to the book.

Davis is the first African-American female to own 100 percent of a Registered Investment Advisory firm in the Midwest.

“My Chapter in the book is: Dear Fear, You Cannot Have My Journey,” said Davis.

She said fear is stopping so many people from taking the steps necessary to reach their dreams.

“First, we have to recognize that it is fear, and we cannot ignore it—we have to deal with it,” said Davis.

She also explained that people dealing with fear need to surround themselves with a team of supportive people with the skills it will take to overcome the obstacle of fear and accomplish specific goals to achieve success and live their best life.
