About 20 homes in Lee's Summit were evacuated after a gas line break, according to a statement from the Lee's Summit Fire Department.

Fire crews responded to a gas line break at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near Patterson Drive and Todd George Parkway.

Officials say that as fire crews worked to stop the leak, they discovered higher concentrations of gas in electrical conduits and streetlights. That when the decision to evacuate homes near the leak was made.

Missouri Gas Energy is still working to locate the leak as officials monitor the area. Many people evacuated have been allowed back into their homes, except for those closest to the leak, according to the statement.

The statement also advises anyone who finds yellow fire line tape on the door of the home to not enter the house and call MGE at 816-509-5244.
