KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 2nd Annual Charlie Parker Celebration starts Thursday in Kansas City.
KC Jazz ALIVE is presenting the collection of events in collaboration with the American Jazz Museum, UMKC Marr Sound Archives, Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors and many more.
It’s a 10-day celebration of all things Charlie Parker, ranging from his sound to his legacy in Kansas City.
It all starts with an expanded exhibit at the American Jazz Museum, that opens August 20th at 9 a.m.
The event will feature rare programs, album sleeves, even a pocket watch and cuff links that belonged to “The Bird” himself.
There will also be a panel discussion, boot camp for student musicians, a jazz tour of the places Parker played and a capstone concert and reception on August 29, the day that would have been his 95th birthday.
