A 6-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting in Lawrence on Thursday morning.
Around 7:45 a.m., Lawrence police officers responded to a residence on the 500 block of Wisconsin Street to a report of an accidental shooting. Responding officers located the child inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police said the investigation indicates that the child was playing with a firearm when it discharged and struck him in the foot.
The child is expected to recover. He is currently being treated at a Kansas City area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said there were several adult witnesses at the residence, all of which were interviewed by investigators.
The incident is still under investigation.
