8-year-old girl killed in ice cream truck accident remembered for her smile

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Eight-year-old Lily Simon is being remembered for her smile and her giving spirit.

Lily was killed Friday when she ran in front of an ice cream truck near 108th and Harrison. Police have ruled it was an accidental death.

Lily was adopted from China.  She attended Fox Hill Elementary School and attended Graceway Church in Kansas City, Mo., with her parents.

The church's children's director, John Baxter, said Lily was a sweet girl and left a big impression on people.

"She was just one of those sweet girls that would kind of bounce into a room. She enjoyed being in front of people she enjoyed just sharing life," Baxter said.

"Sometimes in our worship, the kids would come down front and help lead and she was one who was always willing to come down front and sing praise," Baxter added.

Lily was also a giving little girl.  She helped collect quarters for a church project to help translate the Bible. That's why her parents are asking that in lieu of flowers, people make a donation to the Lily Simon Memorial Fund which will be used for the Bible translation project.

People can make a donation to any Citizens Bank and Trust.

Lily Simon's funeral will be on Friday at 2 p.m. at Graceway Church located at 5460 Blue Ridge Cut Off.
