Need a fun family event this weekend? Look no further than the Jesse James Outlaw Airshow in Clay County.

Gates open on Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with an airshow, featuring WWII and stunt airplanes starting at 12:30 p.m.

"We have done the air show before, not at this location, but we have done this Jesse James Airshow, and it's top notch," said Steve Gustafson, left wing pilot with Aeroshell Aerobatics Team. "We fly all over the country."

The team flew over Kansas City Friday morning as a preview for the weekend event.

"What we do is, we do basically the same thing the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds do, except we do it in propeller-driven airplanes. It's a real adventure... It really is."

Gustafson has been flying with the team since it formed 32 years ago.

"We were just kids when we started this thing," he said. "We didn't really know it was going to snowball into what it is today."

The four planes fly together in formation during the airshow.

"Close formation, we're about 6 to 8 feet off each other doing loops, wing overs, barrel rolls, opposing maneuvers and such as that," he said. "Doing about 250 miles per hour. It's just like dancing together in the sky. Everybody knows their position and what they are expected to be doing."

Tickets to the event are $12. Children 10 years old and younger are free.

"We really would like to thank Clay County for letting us do this at the airport for all the people to come out here and enjoy, because it's a rare thing to have such an event here," he said. "And thank you to Gary Crossly Ford for its support."
