Ever hang out with a tough tardigrade? How about making your way through a cave full of snottites? Okay, would you like to ride a beetle?

All of those things are possible at the new Amazing Species exhibit, which opens October 1 and runs through mid-January at the Museum at Prairie Fire in Overland Park.

The curator from The American Museum of Natural History in New York, Mark Siddall, also wants us to focus on the subtitle of the exhibit: Life at the Limits.

What you see here will test your imagination.  The adaptations of nature are fascinating. There are living exhibits, as well, such as seahorses and a mantis that gets a little punchy.

In fact, that particular creature can punch with the force of a .22 caliber bullet.

President of the Museum, Donna Deeds, says that the most interesting part of the presentation to her is how these creatures relate to how humans…also a pretty amazing species…have evolved.

In addition to the giant representations of so many unique beings, there are also interactive spots - you can toss a clam, feed an underground dweller, or try to avoid a skunk.

And, yes, there is a ceramic Hercules Beetle you can ride.

As for the snottites, you’ll just have to visit the museum to find those.
