When R2D2 rolls back into town, it can mean only one thing. Yet another comic convention is in Kansas City.

"Kansas City Comic Con is a full-on geek experience," said spokesperson Rav Powell. "We want to get people out here who are really excited about comics. We want to get people who are excited about Sci-Fi."

Kansas City Comic Con at Bartle Hall this weekend follows Planet Comicon in May and comes just before MidAmeriCon next week.

"What makes this one different is that we are very focused on families and community and creators," said Powell of Kansas City Comic Con.

Another weekend full of comic books, memorabilia, and even famous actors means more money pouring into the city.

Visit KC said Planet Comicon pumped $2 million into the KC economy.

MidAmeriCon is expected to bring in $5.7 million.

"This group has been in Japan and Australia and Finland so there are people coming from all over the world, so when they come they're not going to come for a day and leave," said Visit KC Vice President Cori Day of MidAmeriCon.

While MidAmeriCon is an international event, which Kansas City is hosting for the first time since 1976, Kansas City Comic Con is a locally run show in only its second year. Visit KC said the exact economic impact is still unknown.

"We feel like there's enough for two shows here because there's enough interest," said Powell.

Tickets for Kansas City Comic Con, which runs through Sunday at Bartle Hall, start at $20 and go up from there. Children ten and under get in free. For more information click here.
