Area Veterans Day deals for service members

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11, and many area businesses are offering freebies and deals for veterans and active-duty military members. However, make sure you check the date. Some offers are on Sunday, and some are on Monday.

While these deals have been confirmed on a national basis, it's best to check with your local restaurant or store before you head out to make sure they are participating.

The first deal is for everyone, not just veterans. Everyone gets free admission to our National Parks on Veterans Day weekend -- Nov. 10-12.

Veterans and active duty military members eat free from a limited menu at Applebee's on Sunday, Nov. 11. You must show proof of military service. Beverages and gratuity not included.  

Golden Corral is offering a free dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, to any person who has served in the U.S. military. No I.D. required. Dine-in only.

Olive Garden is offering veterans and active-duty military a free entree from a limited menu on Sunday, Nov. 11. Must show proof of military service.

Einstein Bros Bagels is giving military members a free signature or classic bagel, no purchase necessary, from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 (or while supplies last).  

Outback Steakhouse is offering veterans and active-duty military members a free Bloomin' Onion and beverage on Sunday and Monday (Nov. 11 and 12).

Texas Roadhouse is offering lunch from a special menu to active-duty and former military members from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12.  Bring military I.D.  

McCormick & Schmick's is offering veterans a free meal from a limited menu on Sunday, Nov. 11. Dine-in only. You may want to consider making reservations.

California Pizza Kitchen is offering veterans and active duty military a free pizza and beverage on Sunday and Monday (Nov. 11 and 12). Dine-in only. Must show proof of service.

Village Inn is giving veterans and active-duty military a free slice of pie or stack of buttermilk biscuits on Sunday, Nov. 11. No coupon or purchase required, but military I.D. is required.

Hooters is giving veterans and active duty military 10 free wings on Sunday, Nov. 11. Military I.D. or proof of service required. Call ahead and make sure your location is participating.

Krispy Kreme is giving veterans and active-duty military a free doughnut and small coffee on Sunday, Nov. 11. No purchase or coupon necessary. You will need proof of service or wear your uniform.

Sportclips is giving service members and veterans free haircuts on Sunday, Nov. 11, with valid proof of service. For a list of participating salons, click here .

The Lawrence, Kan., Parks and Recreation Department is offering free admission to its Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, to all veterans on Sunday, Nov. 11. Must present a valid U.S. military I.D.

Subway is not giving away free sandwiches this year. Instead, it has donated $111,112 to the Wounded Warrior Project.
