Bike share program uses crowdfunding to expand

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City bike sharing program is trying to expand. Kansas City B-Cycle is starting a crowd-funding campaign to get donations.

On the website Neighbor.ly, you can donate and receive a reward in return, like a t-shirt.

Right now, Kansas City B-Cycle is working to expand into the Plaza, South Plaza, Waldo and Brookside.

Organizers say it's not just about bikes, though. It will help make Kansas City a safer place.

"Bike lanes, they create infrastructure, which creates crosswalks, and for people to go out and walk safely. I mean, imagine the Plaza in all of its madness if it was just a little bit safer for everyone," B-Cycle Communications Director Sarah Shipley said.

B-Cycle said in the last two years, its riders have already taken 10,000 bike rides.
