About 900 runners filled the streets of downtown during the 12th annual Broadway Bridge 10k and half marathon this morning.

The annual event, a joint effort between the KCPD and Missouri Special Olympics is the only race that crosses the Missouri River.

Runners took off from the Kauffman Performing Arts center at 16th & Broadway, ran north around the downtown Charles B. Wheeler Airport, then back across the bridge to 31st street, east to Paseo and back to the Kauffman Center.

Monies raised will benefit the nearly 1,800 area Special Olympians, and the more than 15,000 across the state.

It's also part of the Heartland 30k - three 10k's that include the Dot to Dot 10k, the Plaza 10k, and the Broadway Bridge 10k.

The race began at 7am, and interrupted traffic until about 10:30.
