KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The fire chief in Kansas City is leaving his perch atop the fire department, according a source in city government.
Richard "Smokey" Dyer will retire at the end of the month.
Dyer has led the Kansas City Fire Department for almost 12 years.
There was no immediate word on who will take his place.
