UPDATE 4/6: Great Plains SPCA announced Wednesday that their Veterinary Care Center successfully removed Foxy's tumor, and she will complete her recovery in the care of a foster family.

"We want to thank everyone in the community who sent donations, thoughts, messages and wishes of love as every bit helped this girl stay strong through this procedure," wrote Great Plains SPCA communications officer Rachel Hodgson in an email. "Foxy has definitely felt the love and is looking forward to the road of recovery and to living the healthy life she deserves!"

The tumor, once removed, was determined to weigh nearly 3 pounds; in other words, it comprised nearly half of her weight on arrival. Staff at the Veterinary Care Center are unsure what caused the tumor, but will conduct a detailed biopsy to learn more.

Great Plains SPCA is looking for more information about a Chihuahua mix with a massive tumor that was brought to them on Wednesday.

They said Foxy, a 4-year-old Chihuahua mix, was brought in by a good Samaritan who found her by Wyandotte County Lake. She has a massive tumor that hinders her walking.

Foxy will remain at Great Plains SPCA’s Veterinary Care Center in Merriam for a few days. They said she is underweight at only seven pounds, including the large tumor.

Veterinarians have determined it’s a mammary tumor that has been growing for some time and needs to be amputated.

Great Plains SPCA said she is incredibly sweet and that their team is taking good care of her.

The shelter asked anyone who knows this dog to call them at 913-742-7319.

Anyone who would like to donate toward her care can visit www.GreatPlainsSPCA.org/donate and mark that it’s for Foxy.
