KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Children who gave the gift of life were honored on Saturday during Children's Mercy's Gift of Life Ceremony.
The ceremony celebrates the children who gave the gift of life by donating their organs.
At Saturday's ceremony, 21 families were given a rose for remembrance. The roses represent the roses that were placed on the Donate Life Rose Parade float from this year's Tournament of Roses Parade.
"We see a lot of tears when they come," explained Chaplain Kathleen Knehans. "It's not an easy thing for some; it's their first time back to the hospital, but I always see in those tears so much love."
The ceremony is a chance for families and hospitals to give thanks to organ donors, and highlight the importance of donating.
