Chipotle employees took part Monday in a company-wide meeting about food safety.

It comes after the chain was linked to a number of E. coli cases including one Shawnee store on Shawnee Mission Parkway and Quivira.

The four-hour meeting, beginning at 11 a.m., served as a refresher for employees on how to handle food properly.

Chipotle said they’re changing the way food is prepared, including washing and cutting tomatoes and lettuce differently so customers don’t get sick.

The chain is also taking new steps in the way its chicken and steak is marinated.

Since the outbreak of E. coli at some of its restaurants, Chipotle is making sure that employees get paid sick leave so they’re not forced to choose whether or not to come in work when they’re sick.

Chipotle is set to reopen at 3 p.m.

The company is also offering a raincheck for people who wanted Chipotle for lunch Monday, but couldn’t get it.
