KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Congressman Emanuel Cleaver met young students Monday who are learning about how to be green and healthy.
Cleaver talked with students at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and toured their community garden.
The garden’s staff grows food to donate and works with local children. The young children learn about healthy living and giving back to the community.
“When they participate in keeping the weeds out and pulling out the food for harvest, then I think the chances are going to be greater than they’re going to have an appreciation for healthy food,” Congressman Cleaver said.
The garden harvests about 2,000 pounds of food and donates it to local food banks.
