Diocese review board to discuss concerns about case of priest accused of child porn

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - The Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph review board met Wednesday to discuss the case surrounding a priest charged with possessing child pornography.

Father Shawn Ratigan is in the Clay County Jail facing three child pornography charges.

Ratigan served at the St. Patrick Parish in Kansas City and St. Mary Church in St. Joseph.

Prosecutors believe Ratigan took inappropriate pictures of children while serving at those parishes.

The review board reports to the bishop about sex abuse allegations.

Also on Wednesday, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, plan an outreach out the diocese headquarters in Kansas City.

The group says Ratigan took a trip to Guatemala in 2007 with children. They hope to urge the diocese to investigate the trip.

SNAP is inviting Ratigan's past parishioners to discuss the case at a meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Kansas City North Community Center.
