KANSAS CITY, Mo. - During a disaster, communication is critical. But what if all systems are knocked out?
That was the scenario Tuesday during a disaster training drill. The Red Cross taught volunteers how to set up a portable communications system. It includes portable satellites, computer hook ups, cellular phone service and wifi/hot spot connections.
“For this particular training, we do this annual training where they come out, put their hands on the equipment, actually physically set it up because in between operations, they may not go out for six months. So we need to keep that refreshed skill set going year after year,” Red Cross Field Communications Engineer Ed Finley said.
Nineteen students from parts of Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois took part in the class.
