Dog stolen from Great Plains SPCA returned, reunited with owners

MERRIAM, Kan. - Alfie, a dog that was stolen from a local animal shelter, has been reunited with his owners.

A couple found the dog wandering near I-35 on Sunday and brought him to the Great Plains SPCA Lost Pet Center in Merriam, Kan.

As Alfie was being dropped off, a family came to the shelter, saw the dog and wanted to adopt him. The Great Plains SPCA said no because it had discovered Alfie already had an owner.

The couple who originally found Alfie took him outside. The family came out and said they were allowed to adopt the dog and took Alfie without the shelter’s permission.

The family that stole Alfie returned the dog after seeing the media coverage.

The Great Plains SPCA announced Alfie's return on its Facebook page.
