Donations pour in for girl found locked in closet

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - We followed a woman named Amber as she brought birthday presents and cards to a little girl she's never met. She won't meet her today, but she knows the presents will do some good.

"My kids made some cards for her. I have a card from my grandma. I have a backpack, a Raggedy Ann doll and a koala bear," Amber said.

Amber's gifts are for the little girl known only as L.P., found weeks ago locked in a closet and severely underfed. The 10-year-old weighed just a little over 30 pounds and was found wearing toddler sized clothes.

"My heart breaks for her, but it celebrates for her because she had a voice and said 'I'm here, I'm ready to come out! Come and get me, I'm here!' So for me, that just says she is such a strong surviving spirit," Amber said. "Whatever she has been through, she has made it this long and she can make it and she will.

In just one day, more than $1,000 had been donated online, and a dozen cards came in the mail.

To make a donation to L.P., the ten year old girl found locked in a closet, you can make an online donation through PayPal here on LINC's website.
