MERRIAM, Kan. - What would you do if your child were lost or kidnapped? If you were one of the dozens of parents who had taken their children to get fingerprinted, you'd hand that document to police. Barbara Hendricks brought her two sons to try to prepare for the headlines she has seen all too often.
"I have a 5-year-old and a 2 1/2-year old," she said. "You'd like to think everything is just sweet and innocent but unfortunately there's some crappy people in this world."
Operation Kid Safe set up shop at Hendrick Lexus on Saturday and Sunday. By Sunday morning, workers had snapped pictures taken fingerprints of at least 175 kids. Each takes about 30 seconds. A representative from the organization said the only copy made goes home with the parents and they use the same technology as the FBI or Secret Service.
