Dozens of Prairie Village election signs disappear

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. - Dozens of political signs were stolen from front laws in Prairie Village Saturday night.

The race for City Council Ward One is a hotly contested seat.

Over the past couple of weeks, Jori Nelson put 188 signs on supporter's lawns. She’s running against the incumbent Dale Warman.

Sunday morning, 150 of her signs had disappeared.

“The contributions came from residents and supporters to put yard signs in their yards and to have them wake up and they were missing this morning was extremely disappointing,” Nelson said.

Neighbors say it happened in the middle of the night.

Someone stole Patty Adler’s sign that supported Nelson.

“Right around 10:30 [p.m.] and the sign was still there so that was real late at night that someone was walking on our property taking things that should not have been taken," Adler said.

We tried to get ahold of Warman for comment. No one answered when we knocked on his door or called his phone.

Warman's supporters say he isn't behind this.

“Absolutely not, he's got better things to do than steal signs,” Prairie Village resident John Millett said.

Nelson thinks the theft was deliberate.

“I do not believe it was a prank I believe that it was an intentional hit on the campaign and it's not going to stop us. It's only made us stronger,” said Nelson.
