Driver crashes into 2 law enforcement vehicles in KCMO

A man crashed into a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper vehicle and a Lee's Summit police vehicle parked on the shoulder with their emergency lights on.

Just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday, the vehicles were on the shoulder of I-470 and View High in Kansas City, Missouri working a traffic stop with their emergency signals activated.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says Derek. D. Dowdell, 40,  of Lee's Summit hit the rear drivers side of the trooper's vehicle and pushed it into the Lee's Summit police officer's vehicle.

Dodwells vehicle, a 2009 Ford Focus, then allegedly traveled across the road and struck the concrete median barrier.

Dowdell suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but the trooper and police officer were not injured.

The Lee's Summit Ford Explorer suffered extensive damage, and the Trooper's Dodge Charger suffered moderate damage.The Ford Focus was totaled.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
