LATHROP, Mo. - A Lathrop, Mo., woman has not been seen in more than two weeks, when friends say she disappeared off of her boyfriend's couch, leaving behind all her belongings - including important medication.
Dwight Adkinson, Thompson's boyfriend, said she was upset that night and when he got her calmed down, she fell asleep on the couch. That was 2:00 a.m. on June 15. When he woke up at 6:00 a.m., she was gone.
Dwight started searching and what he did find alarmed him. She left behind her purse, cell phone, keys, and car. She also left behind medication.
Not only does Thompson suffer a heart condition and depression, she battles Multiple Sclerosis which makes it difficult for her to walk. But somehow, she disappeared with no transportation and left no trail.
A representative with the Caldwell County Sheriff's office said they searched for Carol in the days after her disappearance around a home she shared with her boyfriend and another property she owned.
Search dogs from a nearby correctional facility and a helicopter from the Highway Patrol assisted the search, but found nothing.
Her sister, Judy Courtney, misses the laughs and conversations they had every day on her way to work.
"She's part of my rock, keeps me going," Judy said. "I hate to think I may never have her in my life again. I think that's the scariest part."
"What are we missing," asked an exasperated Stacey Garton. Thompson's friend and neighbor for more than twenty years started a Facebook page to help find her. She said Thompson stood by her in hard times and has faced so many hard times herself.
"She needs to come home and be laid to rest by her husband if that's the case. If she is alive and well, we need to get her home and take care of her," Garton said.
Thompson lost her husband six years ago and since then, depression had set in. Family and friends admit her medications can sometimes leave her disoriented, adding to their fear but still not explaining how they haven't found a woman who is physically incapable of traveling far distances alone.
