KANSAS CITY, Mo. - High temperatures from the continued heat wave have contributed to several heat-related deaths throughout Missouri.
There are two confirmed heat-related deaths in Kansas City and 28 heat-related deaths in the St. Louis metro area so far this year. The Jackson County Medical Examiner is currently investigating eight suspected heat-related deaths.
KCHD confirmed the second heat death Thursday, which occurred sometime last year. A man reported missing last August and found this year has been added to the growing tally of heat-related deaths.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reportedly received 939 heat-related emergency department visits in 2012 through July 25.
MDHSS reports four non-metro area heat deaths; one in Randolph County, one in Pettis County and two in Phelps County.
