It's been nine months since Brandy Helbock-Castaneda's body was discovered and her case still remains unsolved.

"This death has rippled through our family and we are left with many questions and we would like to have some answers," said Melissa Jeter-McGreevy, one of Brandy's sisters.

On Sunday, Jeter-McGreevy and other friends and family members gathered at a church for a vigil to remember Brandy and others who have lost their lives this year.

In January, Kansas City waste collectors discovered Brandy's body while picking up illegally dumped trash in the area of 49th and Brooklyn. According to police, Brandy's body was found in a clear plastic bag.

Her death was the eighth homicide in Kansas City in 2016. Since then, there have been 83 more homicides, bringing the total number of homicides in Kansas City up to 91 for 2016.

"It's very difficult to think about the tragedy and the fight that Brandy had to go through and we are trying to stand strong through our faith," said Jeter McGreevy. "We would like to make change and change for peace."

Brandy's death still remains unsolved. Anyone with tips or information should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
