Former Chiefs player Will Shields hosts fundraiser for Johnson County domestic abuse shelter

SHAWNEE, Kan. - Twelve teams turned out Saturday to help raise money and awareness of domestic violence in Johnson County.

This is the 13th year for the Will Shields Red Flags of Domestic Violence Flag Football Tournament. The event raises money for SAFEHOME , an organization which started more than 30 years ago in order to give shelter and provide resources for families in Johnson County who are victims of domestic violence.

Former Chiefs player, Will Shields , became involved with SAFEHOME several years ago through his own organization Will to Succeed . Now every year he helps organize the football fundraiser.

The games began at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Mid-America Sports Complex . Teams from all around Kansas and Missouri took part.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
