How to catch a Royals game for $19

Winter is a peculiar time for baseball in Kansas City; the diamond in Kauffman Stadium rests under a pristine blanket of snow; unblemished by cleats or ground balls.

That's why Royals fans in need of a line drive fix make the annual pilgrimage to Surprise, Arizona.

But just how much will the trip set you back?

The drive from The K to Surprise Stadium takes a whopping 19 hours, without stops. While time isn't on your side, low gas prices are - it'll cost you $193.83 to drive from KC to Surprise and back.

Of course, flying can get you there a whole lot faster.

You'll fly into Pheonix on American Airlines for $303 round trip if you leave KC on March 2 for the first game of Spring Training and come back after the third game Saturday.

And then there are the tickets - they're significantly less than the regular season - just $19 for the cheapest.
If you want to splurge, the most expensive go for $30. You can catch three games during that five day getaway.

Keep in mind, you'll definitely need a rental car and hotel, and money for spending. The Phoenix area is world-famous for is spas, golf, and adventure sports.

In all, the Royals play 15 games against 14 teams, the first being the Texas Rangers, the final against the San Francisco Giants.
