KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A one-year-old boy is without a mother and sister. On Saturday night , family members of the young child wanted to make sure he will be taken care of and the killer will be brought to justice.
Friends and family held a vigil for 20-year-old Myeisha Turner, who was killed inside her home along with her 3-year-old daughter, Damiah White, Friday night.
The young family just moved into the home near 55th Street and Wabash Avenue less than a week before.
Friends said Turner was in nursing school and was hard working.
The family also had a suspicion about why 3-year-old Damiah White was killed.
Brian Dial of the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime said Damiah would have turned four in a couple of weeks. He said she was well-spoken, so if she saw what happened she would have been able to tell authorities about it.
Myeisha's 1-year-old son, Denium, was found alive next to the two.
People like Maria Frencher couldn't understand why this happened to Myeisha and her child.
"She didn't hang with a lot of people," Frencher said. "She was a good mother. She went to nursing school. She worked; not somebody to be in the streets. Whoever did this, the family is in shock. The family is devastated."
Dial said this is the second loss of a daughter for Myeisha's mother, Cheryl. He said Myeisha's sister was killed in 2011.
The Ad Hoc group has planned another vigil for 5 p.m. Sunday at the home.
