Officials with the Gardner-Edgerton School District say classes at the high school are canceled Monday due to vandalism.

Police were called to the school on 425 North Waverly Road just after noon on Sunday for reported damage to the inside of the building.

Officers met with school employees, who said they found evidence of forced entry into the school and damage to property inside the building.

The school district says due to the extent of the damage and the time needed for cleanup and repair, classes are canceled for GEHS students for Monday.

The exact cost or the extent of the damages hasn't been determined yet.

The school's security system did catch three suspects on camera. Police say they are described as men between the ages of 18-25 years old.

School officials announced classes will resume on Tuesday, according to a press release.

"Gardner Edgerton School District is disappointed by the vandalism that took place at Gardner Edgerton High School over the weekend. Our communities take pride in our District and its top-notch facilities and we condemn these actions to the highest degree. We greatly appreciate the tremendous support from our staff and community members. District officials are currently working with local law enforcement as they continue their investigation. Students will return to school tomorrow, February 28, 2017."

Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspects, or with information on the crimes to call the Gardner Police Department at 913-856-7312. Information can also be left anonymously with the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
