General Motors has decided to move production of an all-new vehicle from Michigan to Kansas.

In January, employees were told Orion Assembly in Michigan would move production of the new vehicle to Fairfax Assembly in Kansas, General Motors spokesperson Chris Bonelli told 41 Action News.

This was announced as part of a product allocation process to build cost-effective vehicles.

The new vehicle program will be a $245 million investment for Fairfax, Bonelli said.

Details on the product or when the plant will move have not been announced, but Bonelli told 41 Action News "it will be coming in the next few years."

Orion Assembly currently produces the Chevrolet Sonic and the Buick Verano and is ramping up to produce the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV by the end of 2016.
