Gordon Parks students get free dental care

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Some local children are smiling a little brighter after Big Smiles stopped by Gordon Parks Elementary School to provide free dental care.

Fifty-five students received exams, cleanings and even a few fillings.

Gordon Parks is a charter school for inner city children; many don’t have the access to a dentist without the program.

“Now they’re just taking 20 minutes out of the day instead of a day out of school to get their dental care. If there’s any kind of dental pain, it distracts from learning and we just want to keep them health,” school nurse Stephanie Brennan said.

The mobile dental clinic continues Wednesday. The dentists will also do follow up appointments with the children.
