Kansas City police are looking for information about a man who robbed employees and locked them in a freezer at BRGR in the Power and Light District.

An employee told police a man with a gun approached him around 10:30 Sunday as he took out the trash to the dumpster in a hallway shared with other businesses.

The gunman forced the employee back into the restaurant, took several items from him and forced him into the restaurant's walk-in freezer.

According to police, the gunman then walked behind the bar and held a gun to another employee's head. He ordered the employee to remove money from the cash register and also forced them inside the freezer.

"I definitely can't believe it happened back there, behind this building," said Tristan Newell, who works next door to the restaurant.

All restaurants on the block share a communal hallway leading to the dumpster, according to several employees and businesses 41 Action News spoke with.

All day Monday, 41 Action News observed a door to that hallway was left open and, at times, unattended.

"It's definitely strange [the robber] targeted employees. That doesn't necessarily feel good," said Newell.

Phone calls and emails with questions to those with the Power and Light District went unanswered.
