KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After nearly 50 years at 211 Nichols Road, Halls on the Plaza closed on Sunday.
“Today it does not make financial sense to operate a two stores like halls in a city the size of Kansas City,” Kelly Cole, the president and CEO of Halls KC, said.
The company is renovating and expanding its Crown Center location.
“We're really excited about the urban core, with what's happening downtown you really can't ignore it,” Cole said.
Loyal customers visited with old friends throughout the day on Sunday.
“I came down to take a trip down memory lane; been coming to Halls for years, buying suits here from growing up,” Michael Dipasqual, a shopper, said.
The new Halls on Grand will open after Labor Day. It's designed to offer the same high-end merchandise customers expect from Halls and items at lower price points to appeal to more customers.
It’s a change from the old that loyal customers don't seem to mind.
“Sad to see them go, but the great employees here, I’m going to follow them,” Dipasquale said.
