It’s one of the best times of the year - summer time. More people explore the outdoors during the summer, and as they do, bugs explore as well, inside our homes.

It’s something Debbie Crawford is dealing with now.

“Between all the woods and just the different bugs and we started seeing the different ants,” Crawford said. “Me and my husband both got a spider bite.”

That’s why Crawford decided to call pest control.

“It gives you the creeps,” she said. “I just want them gone.”

Pest control expert and general manager for Pete’s Pest Control Cat Heisler said silverfish, oriental beetles, ants, and spiders are all common during the summer months.

“They want the same things that you and I want. They want to get out of the heat and they want water,” Heisler said. “The oriental beetles, they look kind of like a lady bug. They get quite prolific this time of year.”

Heisler said there are a few things you can do to make sure these bugs aren’t getting too comfortable inside your home.

“Make sure they keep their doors closed,” Heisler said. “Make sure they have a good door sweep at the bottom of the door.”

Also be sure to vacuum as often as possible, including the baseboards.

“Make sure they don't have water up against the foundation, whether it's wet mulch or puddles, that sort of thing,” Heisler said.

And when doing yard work, keep your garage door closed, not only to keep away the bugs, but also rodents.

“Don't leave it open. That's their primary access point, and they're going to be looking for a shelter too in this heat and this water,” she said.
