PARK HILL - A Park Hill High School player, earning national attention for his fight against cancer, is using his newfound celebrity to inspire others.
After being diagnosed with testicular cancer at 16, Nicholas Hibbeler inspired his school to raise money for cancer research. He’s also launching a campaign to encourage athletes to get checkups.
Because of all of this, he’s been nominated for USA Today’s 2014 most inspirational athlete.
“If I won, I would get $1,000 and I’d donate it to my school Park Hill because they’ve been with me through all of it, so it would be awesome,” Hibbeler said.
After six surgeries and four rounds of chemotherapy, Hibbeler is now cancer-free.
