High winds cause power outages in Kansas and Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Saturday’s high winds caused some power outages on both sides of the state line.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department reported outages around the city. Officers were directing traffic on South 18th Street at Central Avenue and Grandview Boulevard for a little while Saturday evening.

KCP&L also had crews out repairing a few power outages. The largest outage affected about 1,300 customers was north of Interstate 70 between Main Street and Woodland Avenue, and was still out as of 10pm Saturday.

By 11 a.m. Sunday, KCP&L reported that less than 49 customers were without power.

So far, the winds have not affected flights at KCI. However some flights to cities like Chicago and Minneapolis were cancelled because of the snow up north.
