With voter turnout percentages expected to barely reach into the double digits, the majority of those who did cast ballots say infrastructure compelled them to vote.

“The bond issues in particular, because I believe our infrastructure is in tremendous need,” said Jackson County voter FiFi Wiedeman.

Wiedeman said Question 3 on the ballot was the most important for her when heading into the Central United Methodist Church polling location.

“I support animals so I'm in favor of the animal shelter, so I just decided to vote for all of them.”

Some Westport voters joked that Question 4, minimizing marijuana penalties, pushed them to the polls.

“I figure at my age I’m a child of the 60s. I finally got to vote for it,” said Jenny Free.

"The truth is the city needs infrastructure desperately," Free said. "I’ve only lived here 3 years and I’m horrified by the condition of the city."

Free’s friend Julie Jennings also placed infrastructure as the number 1 issue.

“The questions on 1, 2 and 3. It was a bonus to vote on marijuana,” said Jennings.
