Intersection at 39 and Prospect receives decontamination grant

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - City Council members say a contaminated intersection in Kansas City will now get fixed thanks to a new grant.

A $200,000 grant will help clean up the area near 39 th and Prospect. Hazardous waste will be removed and Aldi plans to build a grocery store there.

It's a process that's been in the works for years, but Third District City Council member Jermaine Reed says Aldi has remained committed to the project.

"This has taken a period of at least five to six years, however they have remained committed and true to say that they're going to build here on this site," Reed said. "Residents should be rest-assured that once it comes it will be a place that, again, will enjoy shopping at."

The Aldi grocery store is expected to open sometime in 2013.
