JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — A roofer accused of ripping people off in the Kansas City metro has now been ordered to pay up.
Following a complaint by the Kansas attorney general, a judge has ordered Jason Stewart to refund two Johnson County customers more than $22,000 for not doing the roofing work he promised.
Stewart was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine for failing to register as a roofing contractor as required by Kansas law.
Stewart has also had complaints against him in Missouri and is still doing business there.
In March, the 41 Action News Investigators reported on a Lee's Summit man who hired Stewart and his company Apex Contracting and Roofing to replace his storm-damaged roof.
Ralph Sytkowski paid Stewart $8,000 up front for the work, but no work was ever done.
And despite a court judgment from August 2016 against him in that case, Stewart has not paid Sytkowski back.
"It was so surprising, he was so legit and when you talk to him, he was just really a nice guy and everything that I never suspected a thing," Sytkowski told the 41 Action News Investigators.
Stewart also targeted a Kansas City woman.
After the 41 Action News Investigators spoke to her, Stewart returned her money but never did the work he promised.
The 41 Action News Investigators have also been told Stewart has taken $10,000 for a Branson hotel roofing project.
But a month has past and Stewart has not done the work there either.
So hotel owners have hired another company.
