KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City woman has died trying to escape a house fire early Sunday morning.
Shirley President's family spent hours outside of her home Sunday morning waiting for answers.
"I think something happened wrong, and she didn't deserve this… not like this," said Dolores President, Shirley's sister.
Kansas City firefighters were called to a house near 72nd St. and Park Ave., after a home erupted into an inferno.
The fire was so intense, firefighters couldn't enter the home. When they finally got the flames under control, they found Shirley's body near the front door.
"I'm still trying to figure out if it's foul play or electrical," said Shirley's boyfriend Larry Keatings.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation; however both fire and crime scene investigators spent hours at the home trying to figure out what may have sparked the fire.
It's a loss her family and siblings say they'll feel for years to come.
