Kansas City council approves tax credits for Union Station expansion

Kansas City's iconic Union Station will move forward with expansion plans.

The city council Thursday night gave its approval to authorize $5 million in state tax credits, paving way for an expansion to the Science Center, a bridge from the parking garage to the station as well as a brand new space portal and entertainment plaza outside of the planetarium.

The goal is to make Union Station into Kansas City's official science center for kids, and expand the science center to attract middle and high school students.

Union Station has come a long way in the past four years, from nearly closing its doors to having $2 million in the bank.

The improvements are expected to take up to three years to finish.
