KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A fire destroyed a home near Stadium Drive and Fremont in Kansas City, Mo.
The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the house engulfed in flames.
A neighbor told 41 Action News they called 911 when he saw the flames. He then saw a man running down the street with his dog screaming, "Is that my house?" before the man ran inside.
Fire crews say the 50-year-old man was taken to the hospital with chest pains. He had escaped the home when crews arrived. Apparently, the man had feared a woman was trapped inside the home, but fire crews say they did not find anyone inside.
Tyrone James was walking home from school when he saw the fire.
"First I saw smoke, then the flames, then an explosion," he said.
A firefighter also had to go to the hospital because of minor injuries.
Authorities said a Kansas City Fire Department truck got into a crash on the way to the fire. Dispatchers said there were only minor injuries in the crash between the fire truck and a Mazda Protege. The Mazda ended up in the median after the crash.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
