A sea of red flooded the Overland Park Convention Center on Friday for an American Heart Association event.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women is the world’s largest network of women standing together to save women’s lives from heart disease. More than 1,000 people attended this event and more than $1 million was raised for the American Heart Association.

Below are some quick stats from the organization on heart disease:

  • One in three women suffer from heart disease, but only one in five believes she is personally at risk, thinking heart disease couldn't happen to "someone like me."  But it does.
  • Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of one woman every minute.
  • 80 percent of cardiac events in women may be prevented if women make the right choices for their hearts, involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.
