For the second day in a row, the metro tied the hottest day of the year.

"They are excited to see us on a hot day," said Sarah Harness as she made snow cones.

The heat across Kansas City came with a faint breeze at times. So many people searched for whatever they could find to cool off.

"We are not an igloo. The only we is the air that comes through the window," said Harness.

In Overland Park the heat was even hotter for these lacrosse players.

"We all know it's going to be hot. We plan for it to be hot. Then we get here and it's hot. It's hotter than we planned," said Rich Limpert, University of Minnesota summer youth club coach.

Rich Limpert says they brought 120 players in their summer club to Kansas City. He says the turf makes conditions hotter for the players.

"That plays a big part in this. Last year had a kids cleats melting during the last game on the second day," said Limpert.

Doctors say when you are outside in extreme heat like these lacrosse players, drink 2-4 glasses of water every hour.

They also say don't wait until you are thirsty to drink.

"We have tents. The ice rags are big so we keep a steady flow of those."

Tournament officials also prepared for the heat by shortening the time of play and creating more water breaks.

Despite not being on the field, Sarah Harness says she is doing her part to keep kids safe.

"It's very important to make sure the kids are hydrated," said Harness.
